MyAutismTeam is a social network for parents of children with Autism. This inspired community allows parents to find each other, share stories, and most importantly, offer support. eTrak was developed with these parents in mind; we’re very happy to share this network’s story.
The site’s search functionality allows parents to sort results by “Featured Parents”, “Newest Parents”, “Most Team Members”, Most Reviews”, or “Most Updates”. Further filters will narrow results to the child’s age and specific diagnosis. The most popular search feature is the site’s ability to connect parents of children with Autism with those in their own community.
MyAutismTeam also helps parents find local providers by allowing users to view each other’s “Teams”. These teams can include pediatric dentists, occupational therapists, MDs, day camps, and the like. Each provider’s profile holds reviews from users within the community, lending further support for those seeking council and guidance.
The user interface is not dissimilar to that of Facebook‘s, allowing parents to post updates and photos with an audience that understand the “ups and downs” that come with caring for a child with Autism. Users can comment and “like” each other’s content, adding to the sense of community. A more formal “Q+A” section gives users a forum to ask specific questions regarding caretakers, safety device, and the like.
The eTrak family and MyAutismTeam founders share much. Both found that the Autism community was vastly under-served and both developed technologies to offer parents of children with Autism some much needed peace of mind.
